Melanotan I
Linear melanocortin research peptide
Overview
Melanotan I (MT-1) is a synthetic linear tridecapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH), defined by the substitutions norleucine at position 4 and D-phenylalanine at position 7 ([Nle4, D-Phe7]-alpha-MSH). These substitutions confer markedly greater enzymatic stability and receptor potency relative to the native hormone, making it a widely used reference agonist in melanocortin research. It is supplied as a lyophilized powder for in-vitro laboratory use only.
In experimental systems, MT-1 is studied as an agonist at melanocortin receptors (notably MC1R) in models of melanogenesis and pigment-cell biology, as well as in receptor-binding, cAMP signaling, and peptide-stability investigations. This material is intended strictly for laboratory research and is not for human or veterinary use.
