Semax
Cognitive research heptapeptide
Overview
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the ACTH(4-10) fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone, bearing a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro (PGP) tripeptide extension that confers resistance to enzymatic degradation. The sequence (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) retains the neurotropic character of the parent ACTH fragment while lacking its corticotropic activity, making it a frequently referenced tool compound in neuropeptide chemistry.
In the laboratory literature, Semax is investigated as a probe for neurotrophic signaling pathways, including the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)/TrkB axis, as well as for modulation of monoaminergic systems and gene-expression profiles in cell-based and rodent model systems. It is studied in the context of neuroprotection, learning and memory consolidation, and selective attention paradigms. Supplied for in vitro and preclinical research applications only.

Handling & storage
Store lyophilized powder at -20C protected from light and moisture; product is stable for extended periods when kept desiccated. Reconstituted solutions should be aliquoted and stored at -20C to minimize freeze-thaw cycles.
Typically reconstituted in sterile water or bacteriostatic water for in vitro experimental work; prepare fresh working dilutions as needed. For laboratory research use only; not for human or veterinary use.
Each lot ships with documentation confirming purity (HPLC) and identity (MS).
